The Labradoodle was originally developed to be a hypoallergenic guide dog. The first crosses of Poodles and Labrador retrievers were done by the Royal Guide Dogs Association of Australia in  Victoria.

This resulted in a smart and social dog who did not only possess a nature appropriate for guide dogs but also had a low-shedding coat.
